NaNoWriMo: Week 1

Week 1 is over! We’re on Day 8 already!

I have not met my daily target, and thanks to the past few days am quite a bit behind with a grand total of 8316 words written. But despite falling behind, I’m feeling pretty good about myself.

Last month I started a day job for the first time in several years, and this month have been taking on as many extra shifts as possible. In the past when I had a non-writing job I found I usually stopped writing altogether. But maybe it’s a case of gaining a little more maturity, or maybe it’s because I like the work and the people I’m doing it with, or maybe even just how much I love this (very difficult!) story, but this time around I’m finding it easier to juggle the two and keep myself inspired. I might not come home and write thousands of words every day, but I am coming home and writing words. And when I’m not writing words, I’m thinking of story ideas and solutions and getting to know my characters better.

So despite having a few words to make up if I want to meet the 50,000 word target (and tomorrow I will have my best crack at it), I’m proud of my progress.

Bring on Week 2!
